FOSS Equipment Improvements
Some important equipment improvements have been made to two of the FOSS modules.
Water Module
for Grades 3–4
The improvement to the FOSS Water Module will facilitate construction of the waterwheels in Investigation 4. In this investigation students make waterwheels using plastic disks, basins, slim blue straws, clear plastic dowels, binder clips, and string. We have replaced the slim blue straws and the clear plastic dowels with customized waterwheel dowels. Students can now slide the disks directly on to the customized dowels. The disks will fit snugly and form a single turning system.
Balance and Motion Module
for Grades 1–2
In Investigations 2 of the FOSS Balance and Motion Module, students make tops using plastic disks and slim straws. In Investigation 3, they use the same materials to make rollers. The 500 slim straws have now been replaced with 250 customized shafts. The new shafts are green and designed to fit perfectly in the disks.
